Thank you! Library and IT Services have worked really hard to operate and enable access to our services with the health and safety of students and staff as our top priority. Although this has meant we have had to reduce service hours, particularly for study space access, we have also done our utmost to improve and increase availability of online services. To support your engagement with blended learning, the University has developed a new engagement monitoring system called ‘MyEngagement’. The system captures a broader set of data about your engagement with your studies, complementing both the blended and online study modes that many students are currently engaging with. As we approach the end of term, we wanted to give you the chance to review the system that has been in development.

The MyEngagement system generates an overall engagement rating for each student by monitoring activity in Canvas. (more…)

I am writing to you in these continued unprecedented times, to provide a brief position statement in relation to the funding of extensions for PhD candidatures.

You may recall, earlier in the pandemic, UKRI-funded research students, due to complete their PhDs between 1 March 2020 and 31 March 2021, were eligible to request an extension to their funding. In recent months the University has continued to engage with UKRI to convey the impact and imposition the pandemic is having upon research. This has culminated in Swansea receiving notification that it is likely to receive further funds to enable further support, as part of UKRI’s £19M fund, subject to approval of Swansea’s proposed extension request governance processes.
