I am pleased to announce that following a comprehensive requirements gathering and OJEU tender process Canvas has been selected as the University’s new digital learning platform.
As you know, one of the most important platforms used across the University for Learning, Teaching and Assessment is the virtual learning environment – currently Blackboard. As the license agreement is ending in 2020, we will now be moving to an exciting new strategic partnership with Instructure, the providers of the Canvas platform.
Instructure are a leading supplier in the HE learning platforms marketplace, offering a wealth of knowledge and expertise to maximise the success of our implementation. As our newly appointed strategic partner they have made a firm commitment to providing continued innovation, technical and business support throughout the lifetime of the contract.
The tender evaluation was a rigorous process and comprised of stages including:
Students, Academic and Professional services staff were heavily involved throughout the process and the final panel agreed that both platform and supplier met the requirements identified through extensive consultation and aligned with our ambitious plans for the future.
The project team will now begin engaging more formally with Instructure’s implementation team to develop the learning and teaching, technical, change management, training and support aspects to enable us to move from Blackboard by the end of the 19/20 Academic year.
At the same time, the project team will be engaging and communicating with Colleges and professional service units over the coming months before rolling out training and support activities to enable the transition. A project website with further information and details will be launched shortly.
Regular communications will follow and the project team will be in touch at the appropriate stages of implementation to support the University through this exciting transformation.
