Emergency exit signIn the event of a fire alarm all students must evacuate the building immediately and do your best to social distance as you evacuate.  The risk of fire, however, overrides social distancing controls and you should evacuate the building as quickly and as safely as possible.

If you have your face covering to hand, put it on to evacuate.  If you do not have the item to hand do not go back for your face covering, you must continue to evacuate for your safety.

Students who are self-isolating or quarantining, it is particularly important that you wear your face covering within communal areas as you evacuate.

Students who have evacuated without your face covering being at hand, then as soon as you have left the building then let our Security team know and a face covering will provided to you.

Once you have evacuated the premises please adopt social distancing near the fire assembly point for the building and await further instruction from the Incident Controller (Security Supervisor).

Only re-enter the building when authorised by Security and a reminder that face coverings must be worn when re-entering the building.

In the event of a fire:

If you see smoke, flames or smell burning and the fire alarm has not yet been activated then:

  • Raise the alarm immediately by pressing the nearest emergency alarm call point (red box).
  • Immediately inform the Security team: Tel mobile: 01792 604271 or call 333 ( internal Security emergency number) when you have exited the building and give the location of the fire, state which campus and building.
  • Dial 999 and ask for Fire & Rescue Services if you are unable to contact Security.
