The Welsh Government have agreed a ‘Student Protect’ policy to ensure international students or those travelling from abroad can isolate safely and securely for the required period when arriving in Wales.

  • All students arriving from Amber list countries (returning and newly arriving travellers) are required to book University supported accommodation for the duration of the required self-isolation period upon arrival to the UK. This applies to students who are also living off campus in private accommodation.
  • Students arriving from Red list countries must follow UK Government regulations and stay in an approved quarantine hotel upon arrival to the UK and before travelling to Wales.

Please be aware that you may be subject to enforcement action if you don’t comply with the legal requirement to self-isolate upon arrival to the UK and comply with the supported accommodation contract.

What is Student Protect?Student Protect is for all students who have been in or travelled through an Amber list country in the 10 days leading up to travelling to the UK.

To help reduce the risks associated with transmission in shared households, the University will be providing designated, supported accommodation for the duration of the 10-day self-isolation period upon arrival to the UK.

Support will include:

  • Catering and support with the delivery of groceries
  • Support with the delivery and collection of quarantine testing kits, medication and other parcels
  • Wellbeing support and activities for mental and physical health
  • Dedicated information, advice and support via the MyUniSupport team
  • Ensuite facilities and bedding and towels for the duration of your stay

If you are due to travel to the UK from an Amber list country over the coming weeks or months, you must notify immediately. You will then be contacted by the team to establish the details of your travel arrangements and they will also issue you further guidance with regard to the Student Protect policy and the support the University is offering (in line with Welsh Government requirements).

Student Protect accommodation must be booked prior to arriving in the UK so you can add this address on your passenger locator form.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding this or any Covid-19 related matters.

Kindest regards,
