I am delighted to share with you that Swansea University has once again been ranked within the top ten universities in the UK in The People and Planet University League 2021, published by The Guardian this week.

The League awards degree-style classifications to UK universities based on their environmental and ethical management and performance and this year, our University has again been judged a first-class institution.

Despite the challenges of the past twelve months, I am incredibly proud that we have been able to retain our top ten position within the League. This has only been possible thanks to the fantastic efforts of colleagues from across our University, as well as the commitment and enthusiasm of our students.

We are committed to taking action to tackle the challenges posed by the Climate and Biodiversity Emergency across all of our operations, research and teaching activities. Our ambitious aims were codified in the Sustainability and Climate Emergency Strategy 2021-2025 which we published earlier this year, and which seeks to maximise our positive impacts both on the environment and our society.

This year’s People and Planet ranking demonstrates that we remain a sector-leading institution in organisational sustainability. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to these efforts, ensuring that we remain on track to achieve our ambitious sustainability targets.
