Bus stop and feetUPDATE – First Cymru Strike Action Cancelled

On Monday 26th September 2022, First Cymru* drivers are planning to take industrial action over pay and conditions, which will severely disrupt bus services throughout the region, including campus to campus services. Further industrial action on future dates is possible.

During strike days, all First Cymru bus services will be cancelled, except for a limited number of skeleton services, including the number 8 service from Hendrefoelan Student Village, which will operate with a limited timetable between the hours of 7am and 7pm.

Should the situation change, we will update you via your student email. Please keep an eye out for further communication.

*Please note that First Cymru is a private bus service operator delivering a commercial service. It is not part of Swansea University.

Strike day teaching and learning

During strike days, in-person teaching will continue as normal on our campuses, however, to ensure no student is disadvantaged, provision will be put in place to support those unable to get to campus – including virtual sessions and online content on Canvas. Specific arrangements will be communicated via your department/Faculty.

Getting to and from campus on strike days

If you live close enough to be able to walk or cycle to campus, we strongly encourage you to do so on strike days – don’t forget you can log this activity and earn points through SWell, where you can also organise car sharing and find cycling or walking buddies. Santander Cycles Membership is also free again this year for Swansea University students. Visit the webpage here

To support those unable to choose active travel, we are putting the following arrangements in place:

Temporary Coaching Services

We have been working with Cymru Coaches and South Wales Transport to provide free of charge, temporary coaching services for students and staff during all announced strike days. You will need to show your student ID card to access these services.
