Student Parking Permits Academic Year 2016-17

From the 1 September 2016 the University Senior Management Team has authorised the extension of University Parking Permits to certain categories of Students. It has been decided that the policy will not differentiate between undergraduate or post graduate students, but given the limited parking at Swansea University the approval will based on need. The following criteria apply:

1. Students requiring reasonable adjustment for mobility or welfare issues in order to facilitate their studies. These types of permit will be authorised by Student Services. Contact the disability office in the first instance.
2. Students with dependent children in the University Nursery. These are authorised by the Nursery Manager. Contact the Nursery Manager for the application form and approval.
3. Students who are on scholarships or bursaries where the terms and conditions of those bursaries provide for the issue of a parking permit.  These permits will be authorised by Head of University Sport and Recreation, who will approve the initial application. Application forms will be available at the Sports Village Reception.
4. Given the difficulty of travel to the University campuses from the extended local area the following category will also apply. Those student who can prove their term time address (registered with Academic Services) is outside the First Cymru Swansea City Travel Zone (see map attached) and they do not have access to a single public transport journey that takes 45 minutes or less to the appropriate campus. This is designed to complement and work in harmony with the University’s Sustainable Travel Plan. For these permits apply to the Estates Administration Office in the normal manner. For Singleton Campus these permits will be restricted to the Recreation Ground only.

Cost of Student permits will equate to Staff Salary Band A, which is currently £44 per academic year.

Finally, all students with a vehicle at University will be able to access both University Campuses from 1600 to 0800 daily and all day on weekends free of charge.  However, to ensure the Automatic Number Plate Recognition System (ANPR) recognises their vehicle they will need to apply for a student permit for which an administration fee of £5 is applicable.  Application forms can be obtained from the Estates Reception Office or e mailing Estates-CarParking@swansea.ac.uk

It should be noted that for this particular category the ANPR system will automatically issue a Parking Charge Notice to the registered keeper of the vehicle if the vehicle parks on either campus outside the authorised times.
