Buses in stationEveryone can travel for free by bus around Swansea throughout the summer months.

Swansea Council is funding the initiative to support families and boost retail, leisure and tourism as Swansea emerges from lockdown.

It will also help reduce emissions and congestion by encouraging people onto buses rather than using their car every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The initiative will run from July 30 to August 30 and is part of the Council’s £20m Recovery Plan, aimed at supporting families and boosting the local economy following the pandemic. The free travel offer also includes a special Sunday service to and from Gower which the Council recently announced.

The Council is working with the city’s bus operators to ensure passengers can travel safely and that all necessary Covid precautions are put in place. (more…)

bus stop road markingsAnyone using the bus service in the last week may have noticed that there have been some relaxing in the distancing on board.

It has been cascaded down to us that since 21st June, the major bus operators in Wales have adopted the English principles in terms of social distancing on local bus services, even though the Welsh Government hasn’t changed its guidance. This means that all forward facing seats can now be occupied, though not rear facing seats and only limited sideways facing seats.  Standing passengers are still not permitted.

For information on these changes please refer to the bus company COVID pages.

The rules on face mask wearing however are unchanged on all public transport services and must be worn during the whole journey .
