Are you interested in global politics and sustainability?

Are you ready to ask the big questions about climate justice and the role of water in our lives?

Do you want to find solutions and put them into action?

sustainability workshop english
Then sign up now to this year’s Global Citizens for Sustainable Education workshop and a free lunch!

The workshop will take place on 4th November, 1pm –4pm in the Nelson Mandela Suit, Union House.
We are especially lucky to welcome our young Tibetan guests from theTibetXChange programme, who will be sharing their experiences about the geopolitical dimension of access to water in the Tibetan Plateau.

Calling all students – the Consumer Panel for Data Linkage Research at Swansea University is recruiting!

panel - students

When you think of how your personal data are being used for research purposes in the UK, do you think that public opinions matter? Do you feel strongly about issues of privacy and confidentiality? Would you like the opportunity to voice your opinions and help make a difference to ensure that the right data and information are put to the right use (that is, for the benefit of the public) in the right way (that is, legally, safely and securely)? If you’ve answered yes, then please read on.

We work with ‘big data’, where we have huge data-sets of anonymised information on people living in Wales. We consult with a group of lay people from the general public – Consumer Panel for Data Linkage Research – who advise us on issues such as whether we’re asking the right questions, addressing the real concerns of real people, and if we’re sharing our findings in a way that a general audience can understand. You can find out more about the Panel here. http://www.farrinstitute.org/centre/CIPHER/110_The-Consumer-Panel-.html

The group is growing and now we aim to recruit TWO students from Swansea University. PLEASE NOTE that no knowledge of IT or Computer Sciences is necessary. What Panel Membership Involves • Quarterly meetings held in the Institute of Life Sciences Building 2, on Singleton Campus • Meetings generally three hours, always a free lunch • Members are sent information to read before each meeting What We’re Looking For • Students from a diverse spread of academic disciplines who are good communicators and can bring the student and young person’s perspective to the issues discussed and who can listen to and challenge the views of others What Are The Benefits? • You’ll be helping to make a difference in how research is conducted, the degree to which the public voice is heard • Membership will be a very good enhancement to your CV • It’s a great way to train up and enhance your communication skills and working in a team Interested?

Please email Christine (C.Dobbs@swansea.ac.uk) and/or Cynthia (C.L.McNerney@swansea.ac.uk) with a few paragraphs outlining your interests and why you’d like to join the Panel. If you have any questions beforehand, please get in touch with us. Looking forward to hearing from you, Christine and Cynthia
