I am writing to you in these continued unprecedented times, to provide a brief position statement in relation to the funding of extensions for PhD candidatures.
You may recall, earlier in the pandemic, UKRI-funded research students, due to complete their PhDs between 1 March 2020 and 31 March 2021, were eligible to request an extension to their funding. In recent months the University has continued to engage with UKRI to convey the impact and imposition the pandemic is having upon research. This has culminated in Swansea receiving notification that it is likely to receive further funds to enable further support, as part of UKRI’s £19M fund, subject to approval of Swansea’s proposed extension request governance processes. There will be opportunity for participation and festive fun, such as a raffle with Christmas hampers to be won. We’ll be sending out accompanying optional activities across our social media closer to the time, such as how to make festive beverages and a Christingle.
All staff, students & families are welcome. Garish Christmas gear is encouraged and please bring a candle to light, if it safe to do so.
